Digital Data & History

September 26, 2026

I read a few years ago that the internet was losing a lot of its archives. Today’s historians can analyze the past because they have access to physical documents that have been kept.

Tomorrow’s historians must be crying at the fact that we are losing so much of our digital history. Their analysis will be poorer despite humans processing and creating much more data than at any point in time.

The question then becomes: how much would it cost to store all of human digital data since 1989s ? As the world is becoming more digitalized, the use of paper and paper trails will disappear slowly.

Perhaps we need to save tomorrow’s historians at an optimal cost ?
