The starting point of any historical analysis pre-determines the outcome of what is being told. History books are inherently a political affair. It can either glorify or vilify any actors.
Children naively recount their stories from the point of time in which it emphasizes most what they want to pass on as message.
Academics, authors, politicians, lawyers, historians, etc … (naively or not) recount stories from the point of time to emphasize and put forward their narrative which best serves their interests.
History, narratives and interests are thus inextricably linked.
